Abstract Faces

Non-abstract faces on abstract backgrounds. Mixing the familiarity of a face with the unknown of abstractness. Everyone has a face and everyone recognizes a face so what happens when you put it together with something unknown.

When I realized that I was going make a project with Izzy's pictures I knew that I needed a lot of plants and a lot of green. I had to make the plant stencils myself. Izzy's face is a big monstera leaf to me and I hope I showed that well. I loved the process of making this piece and learned things and tryring new things. This piece is what changed this year for me. I didn't want to just take pictures anymore and this piece made me come to terms with it.

I made the canvas and the background last year and I abandoned it. This is definitely a piece that could mean different things for different people. The two people on there are people that I know, I know how they think and I know how they feel about certain things, or at least their facades. The big thing here is the end, how are these when it comes to the end? One of them is normal and fine and that's true, the other one is a bit trickier since someone is shielding their face but the fact that someone is shielding them means something. This piece is about the end and how you perceive it.

A Piece About Giorgio

This piece took several months to finish, or well to come to a place where I felt good about. This piece is for Giorgio about Giorgio. For a long time I've been wanting to do something about him, something more than just a photo. These are the faces of George Hicks through the worst but somehow it was still the best. These are the faces of the man I love during the time when we realized how important it is to stay with each other and be there for each other.

This piece was the last piece I finished. This is my Danielle Krysa-inspired piece. The meaning is up for interpretation but for me it's how paint helped me a lot this year. Whenever I wasn't sure of what to do I painted something or I did something with faces. So we have these arms holding a face up and the leaf is showering us with the life of paint. This was one of my fastest pieces but it felt right to add it to my concentration.
